Day 17 Friday

He's doing his PT, stacking coins which sounds very easy but it took a lot of effort on his part.

I got to the hospital about an hour later than usual this morning around 9:30 and I walked into his room and said good morning and I got "where have you been!" I went hysterical as he was actually talking to me. They had changed out his trach, putting a different one in and they capped it so he could speak. Oh, what a joyous feeling it was to be able to carry on a conversation with him. He talked all day long and was so exhausted tonight. He remembers the accident, the helicopter ride and just about everything that has been going on for the past 2 weeks. He understands that he will have to be in a rehab facility for 3 months and accepts it as he's just so grateful to be alive. He's in pain all the time but never complains. He actually got to sit in a special chair today and did some PT with his arms and fingers. He's eating soft food and says it tastes pretty good. Our friend Sue brought him a Jamba Juice today and he was so happy. After not eating for 2 weeks he can't consume too much as he gets full very fast plus it takes so much effort to do anything, even brushing his own teeth wears him out. He smiles all the time and it just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. We were told today that by Monday he will probably have the trach removed if he does well over the weekend with it being capped and he will then be moved to a regular room for a couple of days. By the middle of next week he will be transported to the rehab facility. Miracles every day..............praise God.
