Day 9 Thursday

He is doing so much better today. He is breathing more on his own as they are weaning him off the ventilator and should be off of it the first of next week. I know he will be very happy to have that behind him. His mood is somber and I've addressed the depression issue with the nurse who in turn spoke to the doctor. He did not want to put him on medication for it. I know he is getting better as he wants to sit up, stand up and have coffee. Not happening anytime soon but at least he's asking. He had the 2 chest tubes removed today which is a big step. The ortho surgeon said the swelling in his ankle is gone down and he may operate the first of the week. Running a high temperature but there is no infection so it's probably being attributed to the trauma going on all over his body. His mouth is always dry so we swab it with a moist sponge and he wants it to remain in his mouth. Looks like he's sucking on a sucker.
